New apps help keep track of student information

Free Smartphone apps are now available for two of Franklin County public schools’ most used avenues of parent communications.

PowerSchool and SchoolMessenger are web-based software solutions that the school system has been using for some time. Now each has a Smartphone app, making them more convenient for parents to access.

PowerSchool is designed to help parents, guardians and students keep track of attendance, assignments and grades in real time.

“If the teacher goes in and puts in a grade for a student, you can see it instantly,” said Jason Blubaugh, systems administrator for FCPS.

PowerSchool’s web-based Parent Portal can be accessed initially by contacting the student’s school to get an access ID and password. Parents then would visit, click on the “Parents” tab and choose “Parent Portal.” Parents should then enter the initial access ID and password to get started using Parent Portal.

Once that is complete, the PowerSchool app for Apple and Google can be downloaded to the Smartphone.
