LOCAL NEWS Elyria schools go online for smoother registration process
ELYRIA — Elyria Schools is streamlining student registration to an online format.
An online process goes live Monday that allows parents to register students for Elyria Schools. The district partnered with PowerSchool to launch the tool, accessible on smart devices, laptops, tablets and home computers. Parents can submit necessary documentation and scan and upload key enrollment documents online.
New enrollments require documentation, including a child’s birth certificate, immunization records and two proofs of residency. When applicable, proof of custody also is required.
“We were sending out huge packets of forms every year for parents to fill out during registration season,” said Denise Blatt, the district’s director of pupil services. “It became important to stay on the forefront of education technology and minimize human error during the registration process. We received several positive reviews from neighboring districts about PowerSchool Registration and decided (to use) it in our district.”
Lorain Schools uses the same system.
“PowerSchool is at the center of all of our student data management, connecting our classrooms to our students’ homes,” said Lorain Schools spokeswoman Erin Gadd. “In Lorain, we use PowerSchool to track schedules, grades, attendance, medical records and it even connects to our communications system so that we can keep staff and families updated about all things Lorain City Schools.”
PowerSchool Registration is also beneficial to the district. The process improves accuracy and speed of processing and gives district officials instant access to student information. It also eliminates paperwork parents are required to complete with new enrollments, as well as postage expenses.
